Sean Payton compares Bo Nix playstyle to golfer
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Sean Payton decided on former quarterback Bo Nix to be the man to lead the Denver Broncos into the future under center during the 2024 NFL Draft.

As Payton begins to examine Nix in a pro-style offense with the Broncos, he’s enthusiastic about what he’s been seeing. Speaking with the media, Payton decided to compare Nix to a golfer, but it’s more of compliment than anything.

“It’s almost like watching a good golfer,” Payton said, regarding his new quarterback. “Sometimes, when you watch his game, over two years, you just — there’s a patience to how he plays. The ball comes out, and I don’t want to use the term boring. That’s not the right term. But pretty good decisions, and with each play, the efficiency of how he’s operating. All of that.

“We’ve done these camps for a long time, and some teams no longer have a true rookie minicamp. It might be more of an orientation. I like to have the workout players here, because we’ve found a tryout player, every now and then. And then, it also allows you to have the full-team drills, and I think it develops, not just the quarterback, but everyone else. So often times, your first exposure to huddle, snap-count, verbiage, that can be challenging. But I thought he threw it well.”

It’s easy to see why there’s a lot to like for Payton regarding Nix. Over the course of his time in college football, Nix passed for 15,352 yards and 113 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,613 yards and 38 touchdowns, over three seasons with Auburn and two with Oregon.

Moving forward, Bo Nix is hoping to be a symbol of stability for the Broncos. Denver is taking to him already, and we’re willing to bet Sean Payton will make sure his quarterback is as comfortable as possible moving forward.

Bo Nix reacts to excitement from Denver fans about him

Moreover, former Oregon Ducks and Auburn Tigers quarterback Bo Nix is getting Denver Broncos fans juiced up about him being their signal-caller of the future.

After an incredible season with the Ducks, one that saw him become a Heisman finalist, Nix was drafted in the first round by the Broncos, as Denver reshapes their franchise. Speaking with the media, Nix reacted to Broncos fans’ excitement, as he takes over the reins of the franchise.

“I’m super excited. Only been here for a couple of days, and I can’t wait to get out and about, and go see everything,” Nix responded. “Super excited to be here. The city is incredible. I can’t believe I get to wear a Broncos jersey and go out there and do what some of the greats have done before me. I don’t take that lightly, and I know I’m not going to take it for granted.

“But you know, obviously, pressure gives you opportunities. So the more pressure and responsibility you have, the more that you have to go out there and consistently earn it.”

If Bo Nix can bring a strong level of play to Denver, there’s no reason why he can’t be the Broncos quarterback for a long, long time, and that’s certainly what they’re envisioning at the moment.
