Rockies Offense Led by a Veteran and Second Year Player
USA Today Sports

We are close to being a third of the way into the 2024 MLB regular season. Even though the Colorado Rockies are 15-31, they recently put up an unexpected seven-game win streak. This boosted the Rockies from eight victories in the win column to 15. Before the win streak, the team edged themselves on the wrong side of the MLB history books and looked to hit a new franchise low. As they head into their next series, a three-game set against the 19-30 Oakland Athletics, there have been two Rockies that have led the team in every main offensive statistical category. While both of these players fell into a short slump this season, they have worked their offense around to lead a young, promising Rockies team in vital stats such as hits, runs batted in, batting average, and more.

Ryan McMahon Leads the Rockies Offense

Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon leads the team in three out of five major offensive categories. The 29-year-old infielder leads the team in batting average, home runs, and runs batted in. He’s played in all 46 games for the Rockies this season. In 173 at-bats, he recorded 53 hits, seven home runs, and 25 runs batted in with a .306 batting average. Two Rockies trail behind McMahon with five home runs. While Elías Díaz has 21 runs batted in, four behind the eight-year veteran. McMahon has also led the team in walks with 24, 11 more than the next offensive player.

Colorado’s third baseman has certainly been a key reason for the recent success of the Rockies offense.  McMahon, 29, has collected 13 hits and five RBI through his last nine games. Hopefully, this track record of success will continue throughout the entire regular season. It will not only be beneficial for McMahon’s career but for this Rockies organization as well throughout this long and grueling 162-game season.

Brenton Doyle is Right Alongside McMahon

Rockies center fielder Brenton Doyle currently leads the team in runs and stolen bases. Doyle has played in 44 out of the Rockies 46 games. Doyle, 26, has had 161 at-bats and recorded 44 hits, 29 runs, five home runs, 13 runs batted in, and nine stolen bases with a batting average of .273. While he leads the team with nine steals, it’s also great for the Rockies that he has only gotten caught stealing once thus far. Already 46 games into the season, and Doyle is already looking to have a better stat line than his rookie season. Last season, he put up 81 hits, 10 home runs, and 48 runs batted in.

He already has half of what he put up last season in hits and home runs. The young outfielder has been huge during the Rockies recent stretch as he’s had five steals in eight games. Ezequiel Tovar is the second-highest steals leader on Colorado with four stolen bases. There’s a good chance, Doyle doubles or even triples the amount of steals he had in his rookie campaign. Considering his glove and arm strength on defense, winning a Gold Glove last season, he’ll certainly continue to be a key asset for this franchise.
